USANA’s Inside Beauty: 5 Steps to a Perfect Pedicure

written by Jessica Cooper
If you’re like me, your feet have been hiding in furry boots and closed-toe pumps for the past several months. Cold weather and slushy roads keep us from showing off perfectly polished toes so why bother polishing them in the first place, right? Well good news — summer is around the corner! Lose the boots and say hello to strappy sandals and cute flip flops! Follow these simple steps to get sandal-ready feet in a flash.
1. Soak. First, if you have nail polish on your toes, remove it before starting the pedicure process. Before soaking your feet, apply a cuticle remover and allow it to sit 1-2 minutes. Next, fill a clean basin (or tub) with warm water. Add Sensé Energizing Shower Gelto the water for an invigorating experience. Soak your feet for about 5 minutes or so. Remove from water and dry with a towel.
2. Scrub. Next, grab your Sensé Rice Bran Polisher and rub a small amount on both feet to gently exfoliate dull, dry skin cells. For the rougher spots, use a natural pumice stone in short, quick strokes. Place both feet back into the basin and rinse. Pat dry with a towel.
3. Trim. Now it’s time to trim up those nails and cuticles. This is a delicate process and should be done carefully. There are two ways to handle your cuticles. For me, I like to use Cuticle Nippers. It’s a special tool designed to remove the cuticles by snipping them off. If you are nervous about cutting your cuticles, try gently pushing them back with a cuticle pusher. This is a better option for beginners.
Both tools are available at your local beauty supply store. Once you’ve done this, trim your nails so that they are all even lengths. You’ll want to cut them straight across and slightly round them at the edges with a nail file. This will help prevent ingrown toenails. After trimming, softly buff the nail to create a smooth surface for painting.
4. Moisturize. Apply Sensé Firming Body Nourisher liberally to both feet. Your feet will love this nutrient-rich moisturizer! It contains a unique hydroxyl complex that helps keep your skin soft and smooth.
5. Paint. Here comes the fun part! Now that your feet are clean and soft, it’s time to apply the polish. I recently discovered Priti NYC, a company that specializes in non-toxic nail polish. They have tons of colors to choose from! Use a toe separator to avoid smudging. Apply two coats of your favorite color, allowing drying time between each coat. If you’re feeling creative, add a flower, decal, or glitter for a little something extra. Finish with an ultra shine top coat.
Since your feet are now perfectly pedicured, dig those sandals out of the closet and set them aside for a warm weathered day — it’ll be here soon!
Well there’s the scoop! Wishing you all beauty and health.
