97% Failure Rate in Network Marketing? Here’s a Few Reasons Why…

Let’s just take a minute to clear the air and separate FACT from FICTION about the industry of network marketing.

Fiction: All you need to do is sign up a few of your friends and you will make a fantastic income, be able to quit your job, and kick back on the beach for the rest of your life collecting huge residual income checks forever.

Fact: With the current state of the industry today and the still somewhat negative view that the public shares regarding network marketing, this rarely happens.

At least, it probably won’t happen to you… Now in all fairness to the industry and the original visionaries behind it, yes, theoretically this COULD happen but only IF….

8 out of 10 people who are introduced to the business would start businesses of their own and keep them going indefinitely without ever quitting, AND the company itself would remain intact and never change or go out of business.

Is that the way it works in reality? Not in todays world.

People CHANGE, companies come and go, industries rise and fall, and the only thing you and I can ever really bank on in this life is that change and evolution are the only real constants. Remember that in 1985 the vinyl LP manufacturing business generated 24 BILLION dollars a year.

Where is that industry today? It was replaced by CD’s which have now been replaced by purely digital music stored on a chunk of memory… That’s evolution happening right before your eyes! Better ideas leading to better ways of doing things…

No, Network Marketing is not a panacea. It’s not a ticket to ease and riches for the rest of your life. It COULD work that way if peoples perceptions were changed but for now, painting a picture that excludes hard work and a 90% rejection rate when using traditionally taught methods is mis-leading.

Fiction: You Can Build This Business in Your Spare Time Because it Only Takes a Few Hours a Week!

Fact: Network Marketing IS A REAL BUSINESS – it’s not a pyramid scheme and it’s not a scam! It’s a real, legal, tried in the courts and given a stamp of approval by the FTC – Business model which in truth, is similar in some ways to the franchising business model.

Ask anyone who has ever built a successful business if they did it working only a few hours a week. I guarantee you that almost NOBODY ever built a successful business from the ground up while putting out such a minimal effort. Those kinds of hours are reserved for recreation and hobbies, NOT for building a successful business that is going to pay you a five or six figure monthly income.

Get that idea out of your head…

That’s like promoting a climb to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro by saying, “Oh yeah, there’s nothing to it! Just put one foot in front of the other and before you know it, you’re there!”

It’s just nonsense…

Now, you can START your network marketing business in your spare time and work up from there which is the only way for most people to do it but understand it will take all or most of your “spare time” to achieve any real level of success. I’ve been involved in the industry since 1991, so I’m pretty sure I know what I’m talking about.

Now again, Network Marketing COULD work the way many people promise but that’s only IF 8 out of 10 people who get introduced to the business, start a business of their own and duplicate the process over and over again without ever quitting but that’s not todays reality and it would take a major shift in peoples thinking for that to ever happen.

The reality is that roughly 80-90% of the people who are introduced to the business using old school methods pass on it and of the ones who do decide to get started, most of them will fail (meaning they will quit)

Why do they quit?

Because they got started under the false pretense that the business is easy and can be built with only a minimal, part time effort. Once they realize that’s not the case and that they are spending money rather than making money, they are gone…

It does no good whatsoever to promote false ideas that create unrealistic expectations regarding the chances for success in this industry.

Network Marketing is just another form of sales and distribution and all successful businesses rely on great marketing methods to create and maintain customers. When you start a Network Marketing business, you are the President and CEO and all success or failure is ultimately up to you – just like any other endeavor in life.

Based purely on past performance of the network marketing industry, it’s safe to say that your success with network marketing will take more than a “few hours on the weekend” kind of effort, and will also take at least a fundamental knowledge of tried and true marketing principles.

Will the day ever come when building a network marketing business isn’t quite so difficult? That’s the 10,000 dollar question and I think the answer is that YES, IF the general publics perception of the industry can be changed and become more positive then there’s no reason why it can’t one day fulfill its original promise of only needing to sponsor a few people to achieve your goals.
